BASSGTR Rules Submitted on 01 Oct 95
BASSGTR.RUL
-=< FidoNet BASSGTR Conference Rules - Updated on October 1, 1995 >=-
Moderator: Stephen Clark Powell (1:374/777)
This area is for the discussion of the bass and those who play it.
To quote the echo's EList entry:
The Bass Guitar echo is here! Often times, bass players get left
out of regular guitar discussions. Other items like tablature
and method books are rare and difficult to come by. This echo is
THE place for bassists to hang out, learn from fellow players,
get practical advice, share knowledge, tablature, and to just
have a funky, 'low end' place to call home. Bassists like Geddy
Lee and Les Claypool have brought the foundation of sound into
the 'Limelight' with raucous melodic solos and ripping basslines.
Whether you play 4, 5, 6 or 8 string bass, electric or acoustic,
fretless or fretted, picked or not picked, this is the place to
be if you play bass!
These rules are mostly common sense. I've never suspended a user
from any echo that I've moderated before, I have no set policy on
doing so, and I fervently hope that this remains forever true.
This, I promise: no user will be suspended without netmail warnings.
WHAT IS ALLOWED
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
* Obviously, discussion about different basses and bassists.
* Any kind of bass at all is on-topic. I know that the areatag is BASSGTR,
but I hereby rule that the echo is not quite as limited as that sounds.
Contrabasses (viols), keyboard basses, washboard basses and any other
kinds of basses in existance or theory may be discussed.
* Bass tablature and other musical aids for bassists that may develop.
* Every kind of music is equally valid here.
* Any other live/studio sound subjects, like speakers, sound files (S3M,
MTM, MID), video/sound demos, new sound technologies, and so on, so
long as they are germane to the topic of the echo.
WHAT IS NOT ALLOWED
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
* No personal attacks or insults (aka, "flames"). If you feel that you
MUST insult one of the users of this echo, take it to netmail.
* No brand attacks. There is a big difference between discussion and
bashing. Messages like "Rickenbacker SUCKS!" or "Fender rules, and all
other basses are crap" are useless. All they do is offend people
who play the bass being bashed. If you don't like some kind of bass,
feel free to say so, but tell us why. Keep in mind that the bass that
fits your hands perfectly may not suit everyone else.
* Watch your language. Remember, there are people of all ages here, and
there are many adults who are offended by profane language. What is
considered profane is up to me, and if your messages measure too high
on the profanity meter, rest assured that I'll let you know.
* No test messages. To test your connection, say (or ask) something
about basses or bass players.
* Don't over-quote. Quote the parts of a message that you're replying
to. If you're not saying something specifically about them, do not
quote taglines, tearlines, and Origin lines.
* No messages that aren't in English. This includes foreign languages
and messages that are encoded or encrypted in any way.
* Don't play moderator. That's my job. If you see an off-topic message
and nothing about it from me, assume that it's being handled in netmail.
* No grammar or spelling corrections. Some of us can spell "chrysanthemum"
and conjugate verbs while some of us can't, but this is BASSGTR.
* Don't reply to off-topic messages, even to tell the person that
they're off-topic. If you can somehow turn an off-topic message into
an on-topic thread, however, you have my blessings.
* No messages using ANSI. All messages should be using standard ASCII
text. High ASCII is allowed but discouraged. Use it sparingly.
ALIASES
~~~~~~~
* Contrary to popular belief, handles are NOT prohibited in FidoNet.
Moderators decide if they're allowed. Here, aliases are discouraged,
but allowed. If you use one, please include your real name in your
messages for the first few weeks that you're active here, until people
are familiar with you. And make sure your BBS will let you see
netmail to your alias if you use it, or, if your system doesn't
directly support netmail, that your sysop will know who to forward the
message to if netmail is sent to your alias. (This is for moderation
purposes, and so other users can contact you privately).
Questions, comments, criticisms, and suggestions related to my moderating
are welcomed at 1:374/777 to Stephen Clark Powell, netmail only please.
